A new world of lighting applications with OLEDs

Organic light-emitting diodes offer an entirely new way to create with light: pure, sophisticated and beautiful. This unique area light source has an immense potential for entirely new applications in various industries. OLED is not limited to being just a source of light but can also function in furniture elements such as mirrors and other surfaces or as a part of an interior, a room, in a building and more.

Ultra-slim devices
OLEDs are semiconductor devices made of layers of thin organic material with a maximum thickness of just 1/50th of that of a human hair. How thick the finished OLED light source is, depends on the thickness of the glass, metal or other substrate used.



Area light sources
OLED is the only lighting technology capable of creating an embedded light emitting surface. The illuminated surface does not need diffusers or other functional ‘wrappings’ and can function as either a lamp or a luminaire.

High color quality
OLEDs emit a very soft and attractive light and the quality of the light is very close to that of sunlight. This light source allows the human eye to experience very high colour perception.

Transparency
OLEDs mounted on glass substrates appear transparent when switched off. This feature allows for special lighting applications, for example for windows or on furniture with transparent or translucent elements.

Design flexibility
OLEDs offer superior patterning and homogeneity for individually-shaped signage. Illuminated pictograms, patterns or words can be predefined on the OLED substrate.

  Color changeability
Based on the specific device structure of Novaled’s OLEDs and electronic drivers, it is possible to actively switch between shades of white light and other colours.

Long lifetime
Current light sources require regular replacement cycles due to a limited lifetime. The inherently long lifetime potential (link zu Lebensdauer) of standard Novaled OLEDs and the Novaled Liternity technology focus on this issue.

Energy efficiency
Lighting applications use around 20% of the world’s electricity. OLEDs have the potential to be more efficient than current energy-saving light bulbs. Novaled OLEDs can be significantly more energy efficient than conventional OLEDs.

Clean technology
OLEDs are not produced using ecologically harmful mercury. Due to their environmentally friendly materials and reduced packaging requirements, OLEDs will make a significant contribution to sustainability.
